Holiday Funk

Hey Bloggy friends,

I’m pretty new at this, but already I can see that it’s hard to keep up with a blog on holidays. I read all of yours, but a week has gone by and I don’t have a new post up! Craziness.

So…any tips? How do you keep up during busy seasons? Also, do you guys plan your weeks/months as far as what you will write? Or do you just sit down each day and wing it?

Thanks for your advice! Someday I’ll get good at this. 🙂

  1. I’ve always got something rolling around in my head. It is hard to plan but all I need is for someone to fart in my general direction or for Big Daddy to pick his nose and I’ll have material for a week. Don’t get overwhelmed. I take breaks all the time.

  2. I take the “I don’t have a blog” approach. But I wouldn’t recommend this for you – because I enjoy reading your blog. :o)

  3. Yeah, that approach used to work for me, Char. Until November. 🙂

Breaks are probably good. I just don’t want to be one of those people who takes a break and never comes back. I miss some of my bloggy friends who have done this (ahem…Hibby?). And I feel like readership suffers when a person stays away too long. I know I get sick of checking back and being disappointed. Say…what does BD find in his nose (other than abnormally large boogers) that supplies you with materials for a WEEK!?

That reminds me of an old episode of “House” where this little kid shoved various small rescue personnel figures (fireman, policeman) up his nose. It was pretty funny.

  4. Well…I am coming up on my 4th anniv. of blogging daily.
The first two years I even blogged on Sun. Now I take Sun. off.

Some days I get an idea ahead of time.
Some days I pray and ask for a scripture.
Some days a picture or a poem is enough.
Meme’s help fill in the days.
So does routine. I have been doing a Friday Feast for years.
And for a while did a Fine Art Friday.
There are all sorts of prompts.

You are a healthy eater and could easily do a weekly feature on that.
Recipes…I would love to see some of your recipes.

Pictures of what it’s like where you live.
    I love pictures.

What you watched on tv or what you are listening to or reading.

    It’s all interesting.

    Really :o)

  5. If i want to post a recipe, I usually know what I’m going to post. Sometimes, I don’t post for weeks. Wish I was better about that. I try to post three times per week, because my best friend harasses me if I don’t. Get a friend that’s good at harassment, and you’ll post more, trust me. 🙂

But I have about a million ‘in draft’ posts, because I’ll start one, and decided that it’s too boring, or that I have something better to write about, or I’ll get halfway through it and one of my kids will come in the house, bleeding from the head. You know, little interruptions like that, lol!

Keeping a small sheet of paper, somewhere where you can access it easily, is a big help. How many times have you sat down and thought, ‘Now, what was that thing I wanted to write about???’ It helps keep your thoughts organized, and can make your writing time shorter (so it’s easier for you to post in a time crunch) because you already know what you’re going to write about, and can be thinking of your wording throughout the day.

That’s just works for me, though. And I usually don’t do all of that, because I’m too disorganized! 🙂 Merry belated Christmas, and Happy New Year!!!

  6. I’ve just been blogging since the second week of November. I usually wing it but sometimes I plan. I hate it when I check blogs and the people just stop posting and you don’t know why. I just took a four day break over Christmas and another time I needed a few days to get caught up on home life. Both times I posted that I wasn’t going to be posting and the date when I’d be back. I have been tossing the idea around of having a framework for my blog and have started moving in that direction. I had noticed that a lot of people do “Wordless Wednesday,” and I’ve started to too. This past Friday I posted a “Friday Funny,” and I think I am going to continue with that. I think I am going to take every Sunday off. Actually, I wish that I had all along. I am one of those people that does best with some sort of structure but, at the same time, it needs to be my own structure. Does that make sense? I definitely feel a strong need to keep my blogging/reading blogs within certain boundaries. I think that when I sit down and come up with the structure for my blog that will work best for me that it will take less time to maintain my blog.

    Hmmmm…. I am chatty tonight!
