American Energy Act

An email from Husband this morning (his words in italics):

I got this today from Minnesota Majority:

On August 1st, a majority of Minnesota’s Congressional delegation voted to skip-town rather than address our nation’s energy crisis (click here to see how your Representative voted). Speaker Nancy Pelosi was so concerned that she and her anti-energy allies were losing the energy debate that she unexpectedly adjourned session for five weeks rather than allowing a vote on the American Energy Act. This bill offers a comprehensive approach for addressing America’s energy crisis, including domestic drilling, funding for scientific research and common-sense conservation efforts.

Despite Pelosi’s abrupt adjournment, a number of pro-energy House members decided to proceed with making statements on the House floor in favor of the bill. Pelosi promptly responded by shutting-off the lights, microphones and cameras in the House chamber. This has not deterred pro-energy Representatives fighting for lower energy costs for American families. They have continued to stage a protest in the House chambers without lights, microphones or cameras. They are calling upon Pelosi to reconvene session and allow an up-or-down vote on the American Energy Act.
And here is a blurb from the Republican’s web site:

This morning, former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) joined the House GOP’s ongoing national protest over the decision by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to adjourn the House without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and increase American energy production.
During his visit to Capitol Hill, Gingrich and several House Republicans held a news conference in the Capitol to deliver a message of lower gas prices and energy independence on behalf of the 1.4 million Americans who have signed a petition demanding that Congress increase American energy production. Gingrich was joined at the news conference by Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam (R-FL), as well as Reps. Rob Bishop (R-UT), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), and Chris Shays (R-CT).
Following the press event, Republicans headed to a nearly-full House Chamber to continue speaking directly to the American people on the need for a vote on the American Energy Act. The ongoing floor revolt is proof that neither House Republicans nor the American people will rest until Democratic leaders given them an up-or-down vote on more American energy and lower gas prices.

This is ridiculous.  I can’t believe Pelosi.

Also, this is pretty news worthy that there is a near-full house chamber after adjournment yet if you do a google search in news for American Energy Act… nothing except 2 local newspapers in PA and AZ.  I can’t believe that there is not one mention at all from any of the big news corps.
