2009 Goals Update 02.01.09

I’m doing a little self-accountability here and posting updates to my lofty goals for 2009.

1. Spend daily time in prayer and the Word (I used to do this no problem, but since Anja was born, my discipline in this area has slipped)
Not doing so well.  Where is my love for Christ?  My motivation?  My ability to get out of bed before Anja wakes?  Prayer appreciated, here.

2. Read 2 photography books
2/3 through one book.

3. Read 1 Photoshop book
Haven’t started.

4. Book an average of 4 on-location sessions and 1 wedding each month
Have booked some weddings, no other sessions yet!  Referrals welcome!

5. Sell our townhome and purchase a home with a $500 less per month payment
Not even a bite on our postings.

6. Organize an office for myself (instead of using the dining room table…)
Can’t really do this without #5 coming true.  It’s useless to suggest me turning some old armoire into my own fabulous office, by the way.  I would have to have room for the armoire and then have to own the armoire itself.  Thanks, though!

7. Have a baby or get pregnant
Wouldnt’ you be surprised if I told you I’d HAD a baby since early January?  Haha!

8. Lose 10-15 lbs.
Does the 6 pounds I lost while I was sick count (even though it came back)?

9. Make healthier meals most nights each week (fell off the bandwagon slightly in mid-November and haven’t recovered yet)
I’ve been doing much better.  Aside from the occasional baked good, we’ve been having relatively healthy salads, soups, and pastas.

10. Reduce grocery bill to $250/month (this could be the hardest one…seriously)
Waiting to see what the budget reflects (Husband calculates).

  1. Oh Heidi… don’t beat yourself up over these! Really… guilt is no way to live! But, at least you humbled yourself enough to post your progress! That’s awesome.

As far as number one goes… I believe that getting to bed at a decent time is the key to early morning prayer and/or Bible reading. Randy and I go bed at 9:00ish… read the Bible for about 10-15 mins. Lights off at the latest by 9:30. Of course, we are old fogeys! But, I can easily get up at 5:00 a.m. to start my day with prayer. Today, I added Bible reading because of a new Bible study I began last week. I can get it all done by 6:15 when my kids come downstairs.

Another thing I do is put off reading other books UNTIL I’ve read the Bible or a book of more redeeming qualities – like a study, etc. that day. I think as long as you earnestly seek the Lord, he will show up!

  2. I never got back into morning Bible reading once the kids were born. Instead, I learned to incorporate it into my day, and when that occurred depended on my season of life. When they were little, it was during a nap. As they grew it became part of my day with them awake as they could entertain themselves for 20 to 30 minutes. As they grew even more we did it together so that at the end of our Bible study together we each had a quiet personal time afterwards. I wouldn’t hinge it on the time of day so long as it is getting done. Perhaps hubby could help in the evenings while you delve into the Word?

I agree with the poster above about not beating yourself up about these things. Live with JOY and purpose and these goals of your heart will be answered by HIM in His time.

  3. I’m with Erica, do be too hard on yourself. I think we ALL need to focus on spending more time with God. I know I do, but yet I get sidetracked…just keep praying that he’ll meet you and give you that desire to stop and meet back. As for your other goals, I have to say I am proud of you that they are still your goals and not forgotten remarks. That sometimes happens. But you seem focused on addressing them, which tells me you may not be hitting everyone of them, but they are each equally important and you will continue to succeed. That is very comendable. I admire ANYONE who can have a weight lose goal and stick to it. That by far is the hardest for me, I love food and I am an emotional eater. Which reminds me, Heather @EO and I are meeting at Cup-Cake on Feb. 15 at 10am if you want to join us.

  4. Haha. Number 7 was clever…. #1 has been really difficult for me too. Even after getting (and starting) a book I was SO EXCITED to read….but I’m taking it home when I go to visit so maybe I’ll finish it then?

Good luck with the grocery thing. It can be done but it’s hard, we know.

  5. You’re doing better than I am — my 2009 goals are still saved as a draft, the original not even posted (never mind an update).

I haven’t been making time for Bible/prayers every day either. Lately, I’ve been working it in right after the kids go to bed–BEFORE I go off and read or get online and do my blog surfing. It’s still hit or miss, though. If you want an accountability partner, let me know–maybe we can poke and prod one another in this area.
