Sunday Sunshine 02.15.09

This video is a few weeks old (and Anja’s first stab at the entire alphabet), but I’m sure my mom will love it, even if it’s long. Something about the way it transferred into YouTube also makes her look like a scary monster who never sleeps–I promise she’s more cute in real life! 🙂

  1. Great video, Heidi!

I can’t remember, how old is Anja? So smart!

I want to start working with Little Guy on the alphabet. What method did you use? I printed out large letters that include pictures of objects? Do have any other suggestions?

  2. You are right, Mom did love it. What a sweetheart, just as smart as her grandma! Thanks for posting video, I miss seeing what she is doing now.

  3. @Lori
Oh, she can’t come close to saying it on her own yet, just repeats after us. She can occasionally name the next letter. She’s only 17 months, so I’m not too worried yet. 🙂

We read her books about the alphabet; that’s about it. I trace the shape of the letter with my finger and say the name, the sound and the name again before going on to list the objects on the page that begin with that letter. The only letter she can recognize by sight is A. I guess sometimes B, but not always.

My main goal is to not be too pushy about any sort of learning. I was a very fast learner as a child, so I don’t want to have the expectation for her to be the same. I had taught myself to read by the time I was 3, but Husband didn’t read until 2nd grade, so to be patient and realize that each person has their own learning curve…that will be my challenge!

  4. Too cute! I can’t get enough of little toddler voices. And of course she would make it all the way through and get stuck on “Z” 🙂

  5. That was an adorable video! Anika loved it! She loves babies. I did a similar video of Makiah when she was around her age. I think we only went up to “I” though and then she proceeded to say Auntie Sarah.

  6. Loved the video! She’s so stinkin’ cute. Having a baby girl just her age – 18 months – it’s fun for me to see you going through the same things I’m going through. Your Anja and my Lily seem to be a lot alike, but maybe that’s because most kids this age act the same. Although Lily is certainly challenging me more than I remember any of her three older sisters doing. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Ahh! She’s so cute! (Not that I didn’t already know that.) It’s such a fun age. 🙂

By the way, the coaching from mommy and daddy was pretty amusing too. 😉
